What Are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are artificial tooth roots surgically placed into the jawbone to support a dental device such as a crown, snap-in denture, or fixed appliance. Our dental implants are made of titanium, a strong and durable biocompatible material, which will fuse with the jawbone over time, creating a stable base.

  • Implant Post, aka Dental Implant: A titanium post surgically placed into the jawbone.
  • Implant Abutment: A piece that fits on top of the implant post connecting the implant crown to the implant post.
  • Implant Crown: An artificial tooth made of porcelain is placed on the abutment.

What Are the Benefits of Dental Implants?

Dental implants offer a wide range of benefits including improved appearance, function, and oral health. They look and feel like natural teeth and they can provide you with a better quality of life through finally being able to eat the foods you want, smile confidently and go to social events worry-free, no longer hiding your smile. Dental implants also stimulate the jaw bone, which helps prevent bone deterioration and preserves facial structure, giving patients a more youthful appearance.

Are Dental Implants Safe?

Dental implants are a very safe procedure that dental professionals have been performing for over 30 years with a 90-95% success rate 10 years after placement, and other studies suggest a 95-98% success rate after 40-50 years. Dr. Kendall has placed well over a thousand successful dental implants. The dental implants we use at Texas Sedation Dental & Implant Center are made from Titanium, which is uniquely biocompatible. Titanium is durable, doesn’t irritate your jaw or gums, and has the power to give you back 85% of your natural bite force!

A good candidate for dental implants is someone who is in good general health. This includes eating a healthy diet, exercising regularly, not smoking, and being free of any health issues, like autoimmune diseases, for example, can prevent your immune system from functioning properly, making it harder for your body to heal. Or if you’re experiencing serious periodontal (gum) disease you will not qualify for implants until your gum disease has been properly addressed and the progression has been treated, which we can manage during a dental exam.

What Is IV Sedation Dentistry?

Intravenous (IV) Sedation Dentistry is a form of conscious sedation that helps patients relax during dental treatment. It’s the deepest level of sedation available in a dental office setting. It can be a life-changing option for those who experience dental fear or anxiety, or for extensive or complex dental treatment.
